• Education:
    * elementary education: whereas the aristocracy was educated, as earlier, by private tutors or in 'public schools' like Eton and Winchester, there was a movement in the 18th century to provide education for the poor in several types of school; you will see a description of them on the Georgian Cities website in the pages Topics/Society/Education
    * university education: look at the page on the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh/Society/Education , and for the two English universities of Oxford and Cambridge at the pages on Urban Growth/University Towns
  • Religion: the main feature was the distinction between the different 'denominations' (i.e. religious groups or churches), primarily the 'Church of England' or 'Established Church' and the other denominations. Study the question in the chapter on Topics/Religion. You will also find information on church music, which adds to the topics studied in the preceding chapter on music.
